Using too much?
Households using more than 800 litres a day
Tough penalties will apply for households using excessive amounts of water if they don’t reduce their consumption. This includes an outdoor watering ban, fines up to $1050 and restricted flows.
Households with a legitimate reason for high water use will be exempt. Excessive use means more than 800 litres per household per day or 200 litres per person per day if there are five or more residents.
The program includes the following steps:
- Home notified of their excessive use through their Council’s normal billing process
- Home notified again and asked to explain excessive use (homes with a legitimate reason for high water use will be excluded from the program)
- Penalty ($450 and outdoor watering ban) applied if home continues to use water excessively (800 litres a day or 200 litres per person if there are five or more residents).
- Flow restrictor installed and additional penalty ($1050 and outdoor watering ban) applied at the second offence.
