Indoors
Approximately 70% of our water in South East Queensland is used for residential purposes, and most of it is used indoors. The bathroom, laundry and kitchen are the indoor “hot-spots” so we need to think before we turn on the tap. Target 140 is designed to encourage everyone to use no more than 140 litres of water a day.
Water Efficiency Labelling and rebates
One way to save water is to replace water-guzzling appliances with water-efficient ones. The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme provides nationally consistent water efficiency information to domestic consumers.
The water-using products covered by the WELS Scheme currently include:
- washing machines
- dishwashers
- toilets
- showers
- taps
The Queensland Government offers WaterWise Rebates for WELS 4-star or better washing machines, dual flush toilets and 3-star or better showerheads. There are also rebates for rainwater tanks, below-ground greywater systems and swimming pool covers and/or rollers. Some councils also offer rebates, so check with your local council.
